VE Blog- The Upside Down Man by Picasso

December 9th, 2009

Once, in VE class Ms. Bammi told us to draw some lines on our paper that were very specific. Then, bit by bit, line by line, she showed us a part of a picture, covering the rest of the picture with a sheet of paper. She told us to be as exact as possible. At first(and sort of all through the drawing process of the picture), I thought I was going to go nuts with all the exactness. All through the making of the picture we all kept trying to guess what it was, but until we really finished with the drawing we really didn’t know. Afterwards I decorated my picture with brightly colored rainbow stripes in the background. It turns out that we were all drawing a painting entitled ‘The Upside Down Man’ by Pablo Picasso. When we were done, the paintings pretty much all looked like the picture below.

This is the real Upside Down Man’ by Pablo Picasso.

This was Pablo Picasso.

Blog for VE-Painting to the music entitled ‘Dancing Around the Sun’

December 9th, 2009

One visual exploration class, we discussed a painter named Kandinsky who painted to music. Then we listened to a piece of music entitled ‘Dancing Around the Sun.’ We then listened to the piece again, this time interpreting the sound into line. In time, most of the paintings looked close-ish to the one below.

This, on the left, is one of Kandinsky’s many masterpieces. Also, for example, it did not matter what he saw in his mind, just what kind of line the sound sounded like. After we had practically finished most of our paintings, we watched the movie where people dance to the music instead of making art in the same way as we did ( I say this because dancing is certainly an art). The music reminded me of first whales, then wolves then LOTS of running, sometimes from the wolves but mostly not. The running people joined up and ran together until they reached the very center of The Great Dark Woods and were looking around with a bit of fear but mostly wonder and awe at the purply blue woods. This project was a cool and awesome one and if I had the chance, I would definitely do it again.

The man in the picture is Kandinsky.
